Why Nutanix on IT Vortex

The Real Alternative to VMware.

Nutanix AHV does what vSphere does for most workloads, without the hypervisor licensing line item. Combined with Prism's operational simplicity, the total cost of ownership picture often makes Nutanix the easier business case.

AHV Hypervisor Included

No separate hypervisor license to track, audit, or renew. AHV is bundled with the Nutanix platform fee and supports the vast majority of enterprise workloads.

Linear Scale-Out

Add a node, capacity grows. Compute, memory, and storage all scale together. No SAN to upgrade separately, no storage controller bottlenecks at scale.

One-Click Everything

Upgrades, expansions, rolling reboots, health checks. Prism Central was designed by people who got tired of the operational complexity of legacy infrastructure.

All-Flash HCI Performance

Every node runs all-flash storage. No hybrid disk tiers, no spinning rust, no read-cache warmup time. Consistent latency from cold start to peak load.

What's Included

The Nutanix Stack. Operated for You.

Nutanix AHV Hypervisor

Type-1 hypervisor based on KVM, hardened for enterprise. Live migration, HA, snapshots, and crash-consistent backup all work the way vSphere admins expect.

Prism Central Multi-Cluster Management

Single pane of glass across all your Nutanix clusters. Capacity planning, runtime analytics, automated remediation, and one-click upgrades.

Native AHV Networking

VLAN-aware virtual switching, microsegmentation via Flow, and software-defined networking without licensing a separate NSX-style product.

Linear-Scale HCI Storage

Distributed storage fabric runs on every node. Erasure coding, compression, and deduplication built in. N+1 redundancy across the cluster.

Nutanix Move for Migrations

VMware-to-Nutanix migrations via native tooling. Block-level transfer, agentless guest discovery, schedule-based cutover with rollback.

Optional Files, Objects, and Databases

Add Nutanix Files (SMB/NFS), Objects (S3-compatible), or Era (database lifecycle management) to your cluster when the workload demands it.

Nutanix-Operated Infrastructure. Real Engineering Depth.

Nutanix Production Operations

We run Nutanix clusters in production for customers daily. We have done the upgrades, the expansions, the cluster recoveries. Real operational experience, not certification slideware.

Tier III+ Datacenters with HCI Density

Our facilities are designed for hyperconverged density. Power, cooling, and rack capacity are sized for current and future Nutanix node footprints.

VMware and Nutanix Side by Side

We also run VMware, so we can advise on which platform fits which workload without bias. Some workloads stay on vSphere. Some belong on Nutanix. We help you decide.

Veeam-Native Backup for AHV

Veeam supports AHV natively. Backup, replication, and recovery all work the same way they do on VMware. No proprietary backup tooling required.

Who It's For

Workloads That Belong on Nutanix.

Nutanix is not a universal replacement for VMware. It is the right fit for specific workload profiles where AHV's operational simplicity and hypervisor-cost advantage matter most.

VMware License Refugees

Customers facing Broadcom renewal sticker shock who want to break the hypervisor-licensing dependency entirely, not just shift it to another VMware-based provider.

  • No hypervisor licensing fees
  • Native AHV included
  • Nutanix Move handles VMware migration
  • Familiar operational model

Mid-Market Operations

Organizations running ERP, file servers, databases, and internal apps that need enterprise-grade infrastructure without enterprise-grade operational overhead.

  • One-click upgrades and patches
  • Linear capacity scale-out
  • Simpler vendor relationships
  • Lower total ops complexity

Greenfield Cloud Deployments

New initiatives, new workloads, new business units that do not have a VMware skills investment to protect and want modern hyperconverged infrastructure from day one.

  • No legacy dependencies
  • Modern HCI architecture
  • Faster time to production
  • Better operational ratios

Common Questions

What People Ask Before They Sign.

Does Nutanix AHV support my workloads?
+

AHV supports the vast majority of enterprise workloads including Windows Server, Linux, SQL Server, Oracle, SAP, Exchange, and most ISV-certified applications. Workloads that require specific VMware features like NSX advanced load balancing or specific third-party VMware integrations may need to stay on vSphere. We will assess your stack before you commit.

How does migration from VMware to Nutanix work?
+

Nutanix Move is the native tool. It performs an agentless guest assessment, schedules block-level transfers, and cuts over with rollback capability. Our engineers run the migration, including testing and validation. Typical migrations take four to eight weeks for mid-market environments.

Can I run AHV and vSphere side by side?
+

Yes. Many customers do exactly that. New workloads land on Nutanix while legacy workloads stay on vSphere until end-of-life or until the right migration window. Both platforms run in our datacenters and integrate at the network and backup layers.

What about Nutanix-specific add-ons like Files, Objects, and Era?
+

All available. Nutanix Files provides SMB/NFS file services, Objects provides S3-compatible object storage, and Era handles database lifecycle management (provisioning, refresh, backup, clone). Add them when your workload requires it, not as a baseline.

How does pricing compare to VMware?
+

Apples-to-apples comparison usually favors Nutanix once you factor in the absence of hypervisor licensing. The exact savings depend on your existing VMware contract structure and CPU core count. We can produce a side-by-side model from your current footprint.

Is Nutanix backed by Broadcom or independent?
+

Nutanix is independent. The company has its own roadmap, its own support organization, and is not affected by Broadcom corporate decisions. For organizations specifically looking to reduce VMware ecosystem dependency, that independence is a material consideration.
